Day time talk shows are made for the stay at home mom or home-keepers between the hours of 10-2 and then 4-5 (3pm is when the school lets off your little rugrats). I am neither a mom nor do i stay at home, but this week I’m jet set and following j around to celebrate his TR35 award. This is NOT a vacation even though I’m on the east coast and terribly close to good shopping; I grab the time that he is away to get some work done. A typical day consists of 9-5 online with the TV softly running in the background. Two of the more memorable shows I bumped into were the Rachel Ray Show and the Megan Mullally Show.
Why Rachel?
Dood, she can cook a whole meal in 30 minutes or less! She ran a specialty food store, she’s smiley and bubbly, and Oprah loves her.
Why Megan?
Will and Grace’s sidekick of choice, a funny voice
I don’t understand why I liked Megan more. Maybe Rachel was too bubbly, and she was also sloppy with words and a poor advertiser. Let me give respective examples of "…you put four or five, and maybe ten cloves of garlic …" and "<right after commercial break> these cookies are so good! the edges are buttery and crisp and it tastes like it’s burnt – but a good burnt…".
Megan’s got that voice from Will & Grace that one could never forget; you know the high pitched nasal girly voice with a dash of animal print? The episode that i watched had George Lopez speaking and he was hilarious! I love when colored people make light of the stereotypes of their culture. It was all about chihuahuas, el barrio, spainsh soap operas, and money laundering – so funny! The show ended with Megan and some other chick throwing themselves on a wall of velcro with lots of giggling and silly stuff.
I guess I want my talk shows to be about people and my cooking shows about cooking – never the two shall meet. Maybe Rachel is just too talented to do everything at once – which makes for a confusing and not so enjoyable show. Sorry Rachel. Can we just stick to food?
