No time to shop, but all the time in the world to eat.

I got back to NYC in the late evening of Saturday after 2 hours of Frasier and King of Queens (did you know that the guy that plays the husband on that show is the same person that was the pathetic accountant in Hitch?!), we RUSHED to the hotel, dumped our stuff on the floor and hailed a cab to Sushi of Gari on 77th and Columbus. Heavenly bliss of the most beautiful slabs of tuna and bite-sized sushi/art I’ve ever seen (remind me to post the pictures on Flickr later). I must have had 10 cups of green tea with my meal, so I tipped pretty heavily for the food and service++.

Went back to the hotel and because it was only 9pm PST and I don’t go to sleep till 12, "we" (because j was in the room too) watched the history of Metal Music on VH1. I’m not a huge fan of history, but when I’ve lived through the times and the hairspray it makes me much more susceptible to sitting through a lesson. Fell asleep around 12PST…

Next morning the alarm went off at 820amEST, 9, 925, 945, and finally I woke up at 10. With a recovering cat-allergy-episode voice I gurgled my way to an appointment with my chemical hairstylist.  Jun has been my confidant and friend for almost 7 years! She is the most sweet, intuitive, business smart woman I know. She really topped the cake when she finally opened up her new boutique on the edge of chinatown one month after she had her first baby girl. *swoon* There are so few women that I know and aspire to – she is definitely someone I am honored to call my friend; that’s why I went to see her first!  Jun’s Hair Salon on Mott street came before my mom, j’s mom, my family, and any other of the hundreds of yummy foods and food carts in chinatown I could have visited before I went huffing and puffing across chinatown to see her.

My hair is now lightly permed in soft zigzag waves and stink of pomade and chemicals.

After trying to tip her unsuccessfully (later finding out that you really don’t have to tip the store owner) I went to have dimsum with "j’s" mom, Macjie, and j at Jing Fong. It was already 3pm then and the carts were slowing down. There was no tripe to be seen but we did have a great little bamboo steamer section of roast pork buns and rice crepe with shrimp. (Oh yes, Macjie’s blog can be found here for anyone who appreciates great writing… AND he’s also recently become available for all you literary geek chicks out there.) We headed back uptown for a little shopping at around 430PST.

We hit Bloomingdales SOHO around 5pm and happily sniff tested all the Philosophy shampoos, both mother and son covering labels and wafting apple pie and mint chocolate chip syrups to my nose. By 7 we met up with my mom in Madison Square Park for some good old Shake Shack! We had a total of 3 shack burgers, two sodas, two fries, one mushroom burger, and a coffee shake. We waddled back to my mom’s place to chat and say greetings to my pop. YAY! Two birds with one trip! Saw family WHILE eating shake shack :)

Dropped off j’s mom at Penn and walked to Stone Cold Creamy for a night cap.

I look forward to getting some great thai-curry at Pam’s Real Thai for lunch with my mom, but till then I am busying myself with some xslt! More updates on the City later.
